The #TramwaysandOmnibusCo headquarters was built in 1891, designed by #TwentymanandAskew, and it was from here that Melbourne’s tram system was run for many decades. Bought by the charity #DonkeyWheelHouse in 2009, the facade has just been cleaned and repaired and the original tiles in the parapet that spell out M&TOCo recreated.

The lovely #HotelLindrum originally built in 1900 for the #GriffithsTea empire, later housed the #BilliardSaloon run by Dolly Lindrum, Bruce if star player Walter, hence the name. Set to be gutted (almost but not quite #facaded) for apartments and a new hotel of the same name.

Only the furthest three of this row of #VictiorianGothic shops in #SwanstonStreet just up from the Town Hall remain, and they’re proposed to be #heritagelisted as part of the #HoddleGridHeritageReview. ............ #Repost @heraldsunphoto_retro with @get_repost ・・・ 1951. The block of six two storey shops at 138-150 Swanston st, on the east side, just north of Little Collins st, was sold yesterday for £200,000. The building is on land 92ft 8in by 68ft 6in and was passed in at £195,000 when offered at auction last week. The purchasers are a syndicate which includes the tenants. Agents were K. Gardner & Lang Pty. Ltd.., Yeo, Crosthwaite, & Co., and G. B. Appleton & Co. [The Argus]
