SUPPORT THE HODDLE GRID HERITAGE REVIEW !

Update 22 August : at last night’s meeting of the Future Melbourne Committee, the amendment was passed, but by default, because 7 of the 11 Councillors had a conflict of interest.

This is the most important heritage issue in the CBD since MHA was established, and it needs your support !

This review is the first one to comprehensively look at the whole CBD since 1993 (and that one wasn’t implemented), and will protect nearly 100 historic buildings. Many are places that you would have thought were protected years ago, like the Victorian and Edwardian shop buildings on Swanston Street but no, they could be demolished at any time ! The Review is going to be considered by Council on Tuesday 21st and they need to see that there is community support for this.

The full report can be found here – its 1000 pages, but its a good read.

Just fill in the form found here with the following  info :

Future Melbourne Committee; 21/ 08/ 2018; Item 6.1 Melbourne Planning Scheme Amendments C327 and C328 – Hoddle Grid Heritage Review.

You could say something like :

I fully support Planning Scheme Amendments C327 and C328 – the Hoddle Grid Heritage Review. The architectural heritage of our city is one of our greatest assets, and all of these buildings are deserving of protection, even the 1960s Mid Century Modern towers. There are also many charming older buildings right in the heart of the city that I would have thought were already protected ! I commend Council for this initiative, and I know future generations will thank you for this work.
